Welcome to the Drop the Weasel website, it’s lovely to have you here.

I want to reclaim ‘me’ time and encourage everyone to settle down in their favourite armchair and start hand stitching. Not only will you learn a new skill but my craft kits will also encourage mindfulness and reduces stress and anxiety. Immersing yourself in the action of hand stitching enables you to truly unwind.

Inspiration

All of the craft kits and patterns you’ll find at Drop the Weasel are designed by me, Lizzie Powell, I find inspiration everywhere but the areas I’m regularly drawn too are gardens, wildlife and vintage living. I just love the idea of slow living in a world where you have time to tend a rose garden or keep bees and bake bread. I think this is why hand stitching appeals to me so much.

About Lizzie Powell

I live in The Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, in the UK.

Growing up with a mother who always had a craft project on the go meant that it was inevitable that some of that talent would rub off on me. My sisters and I were encouraged to experiment with creativity and come up with our own ways of doing things and solve creative problems.

At the age of 26 I left my job and enrolled in a year long design course followed by a HND in Fine Art. After college I worked for 15 years in a local factory where I plotted and planned my future as an designer. During my 15 years at the factory I started Drop the Weasel as a side business and sold my art and craft items at local fairs and markets.

Eventually I was able to opt for voluntary redundancy and leave my factory job to become a full time designer. I built my dream studio in my garden and set about creating nature inspired designs with the thought of building a range of homeware products.

However, 2019 saw a change in direction for Drop the Weasel as I returned to my crafting roots and my love of hand stitching. The first Drop the Weasel craft kit collection was launched and with it a revived passion for all things slow, focused and mindful.
